Noosa Council, in partnership with Noosa & District Landcare Group, is working to enhance koala habitat on private land by offering restoration assistance to eligible properties. This initiative aims to create vital links between key koala habitats within the Noosa Shire, while also providing ongoing support to landowners in improving koala habitat connectivity.
Selection criteria:
- Project site located on private land within the proposed corridor areas.
- Project involves the implementation of an approved restoration activity.
- Properties that are protected under a covenant such as nature refuges or VCA properties will be prioritised.
- Properties situated within priority koala corridors will be prioritised.
- To see if your property falls within a mapped corridor download the Koala Corridor Mapping.
Project requirements:
- Tree Species: At least 30% of the total canopy must consist of koala-preferred tree species (primary or secondary food trees for the region), along with non-eucalypt trees and shrubs for shelter. Please refer to page 38 of the Koalas in the Noosa region booklet for a list of koala feed trees in SEQ.
- Existing Koala Habitat: Restoration activities in areas with existing koala habitat (e.g., fencing, weed control) must maintain at least 30% koala-preferred canopy species.
- Monitoring: Regular monitoring is required to assess the success of weed control and seedling survival.
