Fungi feast
After the recent rain many fungi just appeared overnight. There are many, many fungi…not just the mushroom we eat. They are not well studied due to lack of interest in funding circles. Our knowledge of fungi is therefore limited. Noosa landcare had a fascinating talk n by Patrick Leonard from the Queensland Mycological Society recently, where he did shed some light on these fascinating things…I say ‘things’ as they are hard to define…When you look at such a mushroom growing out of the ground, you are looking at just part of a fungus – not the whole organism. The rest of the organism (often 90% or more) is underground.
Sometimes, the visible part is simply striking, as in this one I saw in our bush after the rain. I have no idea what this one is called…maybe a reader can enlighten me?
It is spectacular though!
